D. A candidate shall not run for more than one office at the same election.

E. The city election in 2008 for members of the city council shall be called for the election of mayor, a two-year term, three council seats consisting of a four-year term, and one council seat consisting of a two-year term. Thereafter, beginning with the election of 2010 and commencing every two years thereafter, the election will be held for the position of mayor with a two-year term, and three council seats with a four-year term. [Code 2006 § 2-1-1. Ord. 2006-05, 3-13-2006].

Editor’s Note: Ord. 2007-03 proposed changing the mayor’s term of office from two to four years. However, this change was rejected by the voters. Ord. 2009-09 sought to require that the mayor be selected by members of the city council rather than by the voters. This change was also rejected by the voters. The above language reflects the current status of the law which is that the mayor is elected for a two-year term every two years and three council members are elected to staggered four-year terms every two years.
